About the Author
Daniel Darling is the Senior Pastor of Gages Lake Bible Church in the northwest suburbs of Chicago and is the author of Teen People of the Bible, Crash Course, and iFaith (2011). His work has been featured in evangelical publications such as Focus on the Family, Marriage Partnership, Pray!, Stand Firm, In Touch with Dr. Charles Stanley. His op-eds have appeared in Newsweek/Washington Posts' On Faith section and other newspapers and opinion sites. He has been profiled by The Chicago Tribune. Daniel is a contributing writer to Zondervan's Couples Devotional Bible.Dan's columns appear weekly at Crosswalk.com and monthly for the local Lake County Journals. Dan has been interviewed on TV and radio outlets across the country, including, Steve Brown, etc, Moody Broadcasting Network, Harvest Television, The Sandy Rios Show, American Family Radio, and many others.
Daniel has a bachelor's degree in pastoral ministry from Dayspring Bible College. He traveled extensively to India and the Middle East. He and his wife, Angela, have two daughters and a son and reside in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.

Typical devo for younger teens

When we first received this devo, we were excited because we love Daniel Darling's books. This one however is the typical devo that we have heard of before that talks about purity, dating etc.. I was hoping to find a devo that would help us dig a bit deeper into the Bible but this one misses the mark for older teens. It is however a good start for younger teens. I feel that so many devotionals repeat the same information as this one does..

Statistics tell us that 80% of the children who graduate high school leave the church for a time (or for good.) Why? Perhaps the reason is they have learned of doctrine but not made it their own.
Crash Course: Forming a Faith Foundation for Life by Pastor and Author, Daniel Darling is a tool offering teenagers a journey to know the truths of the bible for themselves.
This devotional digs deep into the foundations of Christianity. The daily messages are short and to the point. Each one is followed up with even shorter sections that drive home the point; The Bottom Line, Own It, Power Prayer, and Power Passage.
Teenagers want the net/net. You will lose their interest if the info is long in delivery. If a teenager truly wants to discuss the glorious adventure we call Christianity and works through 100 days of this book with a receptive heart, their faith will be strengthened and deepened.
This book is divided into five sections: Doctrine, How to Make Good Choices, What Should I Do With My Life, Staying True in a World of Lies, and Finding Joy in a Hard World. Each of the devotions and section endings are packed with other recommended websites, well-chosen reading material, and advice and tips making it a great resource.
What's inside? Here's a quick list of my favorites:
* Day 32: The Big Fat Mystery - deals with the nagging question in many hearts about the validity of the bible and drives the reader to get personal with God and ask Him themselves.
* Day 58: The Perfect Guy - deals with longings for perfection and announcing that perfection cannot be found on this earth.
* Day 79: How to Keep Your Purity - deals with keeping sexually pure in a sexually saturated world by offering five steps to refer to when faced with temptation.
Excellent adventure to take a youth group through or to go through with your own son or daughter, I recommend it highly.

Very good teen devotional

"Crash Course" is a 100 day devotional aimed at teenagers, but it's written simply enough that ages 8-18 would all get something out of it. It's written in a conversational tone and was easy to understand.
The author gave one or two Bible verses, then a very brief illustrative story and an explanation of the day's concept based on those verses. He then suggested other resources for in-depth study (like other Bible verses to look up or another book or website or YouTube video on the subject).
Though each day's lesson was brief, his explanation was clear, concise, and covered the most important points. The lessons usually built on each other and were Bible-based.
Section One covered subjects like God, Christ, Holy Spirit, the Trinity, the Bible, Creation, Sin, Satan, Heaven, Hell, Baptism, Communion. His explanations were consistent with what most Protestant denominations teach. If there is some conflict in teachings (like the when of Rapture), he mentioned that before he explained what he believes.
Section Two covered subjects like God knows everything about you, cares for you, intends good toward you, wants you to show love toward others, and how to determine God's will for your life.
Section Three covered making decisions--by seeking God, who do you ask for advice, who influences your decisions, deciding on friends, dating, your future job, how to spend your money, etc.
Section Four covered making your faith your own, how to overcome temptation and sin, and how to grow and help others grow in their faith.
Section Five covered handling changes and sorrow, forgiveness, the source of happiness, getting you focus right, etc.
Overall, I'd highly recommend this devotional to youth, especially to those who might not have a firm foundational understanding in these areas.
