ALEXANDER AND JOSEPH LAGOS are brothers. Alexander spent his 20s touring with a rock band, while Joseph took on the family woodcarving business. The Lagos Brothers' DEATH AND TAXES Brings History Alive In A New Way

For those young people especially that are looking for a way to make history come alive you have to look no further than the Lagos Brothers and what they are doing through the Sons of Liberty series. In the new book DEATH AND TAXES we are able to see the brothers bring back the heroes we have to love as well as give us some bits of history that come alive for us through the colorful illustrations and great storyline.

For me the highlights this time around were the way that all of us are revealed to be under some form of authority, and that authority can take the form of physical bondage as well as figurative bondage. For Graham and Brody we are faced with real choices about the world that they see themselves a part of. Will they allow the injustices going on around them to go unchallenged or will they rise to the occasion and look for a way that they can be a part of the change and good they want to see.

Stepping away from the sometimes serious messages of the book we also see that we are not in the battle against what is wrong alone. There are others that can rise up for our cause, and sometimes our brave actions may be just what they need to move forward themselves.

As an entertaining read with a subtle education feel, DEATH AND TAXES is the kind of book that brings history alive as few have been able to do. Not to give this book a chance would be choosing to rob yourself of not only a great read but a real literary gift.

Jason Dukes is a learner, dreamer, teacher, and church planter. Raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Jason has been on an amazing journey for the last five years while planting Westpoint Church in the Orlando, Florida, area. Westpoint's local community of faith focuses on being the church, doing life together, and giving herself away; and emphasizes living sent, being a letter from God communicating His love and hope in the message of our daily lives among all whom we encounter. Jason has also been involved with the creation and launch of the Restoration Concept, House Blend Cafe, the Reproducing Churches network, and the Church of West Orange. Jason and his wife, Jen, have five children and live in Orlando.

Sex slavery. It's real, it's happening...and it needs to be stopped!

As with Deliver Me from Evil, Kathi Macias has penned another heart-wrenching story of modern-day sex slaves in the sequel, Special Delivery. This book is not to be read lightly--each scene that unfolds is constantly building tension and opening the eyes of the reader.

I always love revisiting characters, so was delighted when I discovered that Mara and Jonathan and his family were still key characters in Special Delivery. And the continuing story of Lawan's life as a sex slave in the Golden Triangle is really moving. While I thought Klahan was a bit weird in his infatuation with the ten year old girl, it was amazing--and beautiful--how God used this man in Lawan's life.

The first few chapters were, in my opinion, a bit rough to get through. There was a lot of back story woven in as each character makes an appearance for the first time. And even afterwards, I felt that sometimes the characters reminisced a bit much--there were some parts that felt redundant.

Regardless of this, however, I still found Special Delivery a captivating read. Each scene moved the story plot along and brought more suspense into the character's lives. Obviously, since this is a book about sex slavery, I would not recommend this book to younger readers. But, that said, I felt Macias did a wonderful job keeping the book as clean as possible.

The Freedom series is certainly one that must be read in order, in my opinion. While Lawan and Francesca's stories were very moving...Mara's story in Deliver Me from Evil touched me the most. So you need to read them in order to get the full impact of this series! I highly recommend both of these books to anyone who might be wondering about sex slavery in the 21st century. It's real, it happens...and it needs to be stopped. I commend Macias for trying to bring this awful business to our attention through her writings.

Special Delivery - Another Powerful Read!

Special Delivery picks up with some of the characters from "Deliver Me From Evil." We follow a young lady Mara who has the opportunity to start living a life free from her captors. Is she truly free? The author also brings our attention to Lawan just a slip of a girl at the tender age of 10. This girl suffers a lot of horror and pain at the hands of her captor. What will become of her? Then we have a 14 year old named Francesca who has been shown no mercy by the men who come and pay for her services. Will she ever be reunited with her family?

Author Kathi Macias paints for us a picture of what human trafficking is like. She doesn't sugar coat it. We read about the horrors of it; the evilness of it; Satan working at his best.

I went through a gamut of emotions while reading this book. First you hope that this can't possibly be true but deep down you know that it is happening for real in our country as well as others. I felt angry, great sadness and even happiness when I finally saw some hope in the lives of some of these characters. This hope arrived through rescuers and interventions. There are people out there who truly care.

Thank you Kathi for bringing God into your books. We always have hope through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Without that hope we have nothing.

A special delivery that was well worth the wait

Deliver Me from Evil, the first book in Kathi Macias' Freedom Series, which exposes the horrors of human trafficking, left me anxiously awaiting the arrival of Special Delivery.

This second book is the continuing story of Mara, a young woman once enslaved in a human trafficking ring, and Jonathan the pizza boy turned Bible college student who aided in her rescue. Their relationship, which is strained at best, gives insight into the deep emotional trauma experienced by someone who has been victimized so severely. I'm now anxious for the final book in the series, The Deliverer, to see how things progress.

I am thankful that the beginning of Special Delivery was a refresher of sorts because it had been awhile since I read Deliver Me from Evil. Within minutes of picking it up, I was completely engrossed. So much so, that I read it from cover to cover. I found it impossible to put down with the character's lives hanging in the balance. For me the book was riveting. Just as it is with a really good movie, by the time I'd finished the book, I was emotionally spent. This is something that I've rarely experienced from a fictional work.

It was all-too-real.

And that is what makes Kathi Macias' work so outstanding. Not only does she tackle dark issues which society and the church seem to overlook but she also does it in a very compelling way. You can't help but invest yourself emotionally while reading her books. They will turn you inside out and upside down providing haunting reminders, even after you put them aside, of the plight of others in need of both our awareness and help.

In book #2 the author, once again, does a masterful job of weaving in additional characters and sub-themes while exposing them to additional facets of the hideous problem of human trafficking. Take Lawan and Francesca, for example. Their circumstances are uniquely different yet both are slaves, nevertheless, in desperate need of deliverance. Mara, is not completely out of danger, either. I'd share more of their stories but you really must read them for yourself to adequately feel their pain. I certainly felt it profoundly and believe that we must all feel it deeply if real progress toward abolition of this problem is to be made.

Special Delivery, in particular, helped me to see that there is much more to human trafficking then first meets the eye. And, speaking of eyes, there is a very good chance that we may actually be coming into contact with "human slaves" throughout the course of our day. This book presents a scenario shedding light on what such an encounter might look like. It was very realistic, and I believe it happens with regularity.

If you would like a "portal" into the world of human trafficking look no further. Kathi Macias' Freedom series is a great place to begin. I cannot recommend Special Delivery highly enough. It is one delivery that was well worth the wait.

Drawing on works that represent various types, languages, and geographical areas, Smither treats the general characteristics of oratorio libretto and music and analyzes twenty-two oratorios from Italy, England, Germany, France, and Russia. He synthesizes the results of specialized studies and contributes new material based on firsthand study of eighteenth-century music manuscripts and printed librettos.

Emphasizing the large number of social contexts within which oratorios were heard, Smither discussed examples in Italy such as the Congregation of the Oratory, lay contrafraternities, and educational institutions. He examines oratorio performances in German courts, London theaters and English provincial festivals, and the Parisian Concert spirituel. Though the volume concentrates primarily on eighteenth-century oratorio from the early to the late Classical styles, Smither includes such transitional works as the oratorios of Jean-Francios le Seur in Paris and Stepan Anikievich Degtiarev in Moscow.

A History of the Oratorio is the first full-length history of the genre since Arnold Schering's 1911 study. In addition to synthesizing current thought about the oratorio, this volume contributes new information on relationships between oratorio librettos and contemporary literary and religious thought, and on the musical differences among oratorios from different geographical-cultural regions.

A Month of Miracles

Women by Design is a ministry that is made up of six women who share their experiences in an effort to bring God into peoples' lives who need the hope and the miracles that only God can provide. A Month of Miracles is a collection of thirty personal stories written by these six women that show God at work in their lives.

A Month of Miracles is a lovely book with stories that will deeply touch the reader's heart. These stories are relatively short making it easy to read this book anywhere, but the stories all have an important message that we can all use and learn a great deal from.

This book is also a very attractive book. The hardcover format gives it a gift book appearance and the pages are pretty and easy to read. Overall, A Month of Miracles is a warm and soothing book that will inspire and encourage readers all month long. I'm sure I will return to this book and read through it again for another month of miracles.

A lovely hardbound book that makes a perfect gift for someone else and/or a great resource for yourself, this book contains thirty stories that will thrill your heart and encourage your spirit. A month of tears!

If this book's 30 short devotions/ testimonies don't bring tears to your eys and open your heart, nothing will. Easy to read and hard to not continue reading. I did not use this as a daily devotional, but more of a general reminder of Go's love and goodness towards us.

Excellent book. Her terms for flesh and examples are wonderful. It is a 40 day devotional and you really only want to read one chapter a day. There is so much to meditate on and think about throughout your day---and then keep building on that awareness.

From the first page it draws you in. A new way of looking at yourself and your purpose as a Christian. I'm only on Day 20 and I've even done a few days over more than once. I've shared a few days with our pastor whom past that day onto a new believer. Good material. Broken out in pieces to really help you get insight.

"Giles Cole is a former actor and has written seven plays for BBC Radio 4 (Afternoon Play); The Art of Concealment (Brighton Festival Fringe, 2011, Jermyn Street Theatre and Riverside Studios, 2012) is his tenth stage play. He has served on the reading panels for the Croydon Warehouse Theatre, the former BBC TV Script Unit, and currently for the new writing organisation, Writer's Avenue. From 1987 to 2008 he was a producer and scriptwriter specialising in awards ceremonies, writing over 500 scripts for celebrity presenters. He is currently the editor of the newsletter for the Terence Rattigan Society and in 2011 completed a postgraduate Masters degree in Creative Writing (Plays and Screenplays) at City University, London. About the Author
Laura Wade is a graduate of the Royal Court Young Writers Programme. Her first play for the Royal Court, Breathing Corpses played in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs in 2005 and won her the Critics’ Circle Theatre Award for Most Promising Playwright, the Pearson Playwrights Best Play Award, the George Devine Award and an Olivier Award Nomination for Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre. She also worked on a collaborative project, Catch, for the Royal Court in 2006, with a group of female contemporaries. Her other plays include Other Hands, and Colder Than Here at Soho Theatre.

The quality of the product was worst than expected...the picture does not represent the real presentation of the book. It was delivered on time, as usual considering Amazon is the best in delivery process
