Constantin Brancusi (Critical Lives), by Sanda Miller

Acknowledged as one of the major sculptors and avant-garde artists of the twentieth century, Constantin Brancusi (1876-1957) also remained one of the most elusive. His mysterious nature was not only due to his upbringing in Romania – which, at the time, was still regarded by much of Europe as a backward country haunted by vampires and werewolves – but also because Brancusi was aware that myth and an ‘aura of otherness’ appealed to the public. This self-mythology is embodied in his white atelier in Montparnasse, Paris. In Constantin Brancusi Sanda Miller looks beyond the mythology of the artist to show us Constantin the Romanian student, as well as Brancusi the celebrated artist. Using new material, including private correspondence from Brancusi’s archive in Paris, works from Romania, and Brancusi’s own photos of his studio, the author weaves together and interprets a wealth of information, bringing to life his early years in Romania, his move to Paris and his years at his studio. She relates how his art scandalized the Paris salon, yet at the same time explores how his work connects with the folk art of his homeland. She also provides colourful evocations of Brancusi’s relationships with colleagues, dealers, friends and lovers. An innovative reassessment of Brancusi’s life and work, Sanda Miller’s perceptive book allows Brancusi to take his rightful place among the most important of the intellectual personalities who shaped twentieth-century modernism.

Review
'Sanda Miller has been working on Constantin Brancusi since the 1970s, and her latest contribution to the literature on one of the twentieth-century's greatest sculptors is a detailed and well-researched biography. A new body of archival material became available to Brancusi scholars in 2001 ... Such major gifts to art historians require careful unpacking, and Miller has done an excellent job of digging deeply and thoroughly into hundreds of documents and photographs. The resultant book is centred on primary source material, dispelling long-held myths surrounding Brancusi and attaining perhaps as authentic a portrayal of his life and work as will ever be possible.' - Slavonic and East European Review

From the Back Cover
Sanda Miller is the first Western European historian to have subjected Brancusi to exhaustive analysis: being Romanian by birth, she has a full knowledge of the literature and is able to bring to bear Romanian memoirs, literary texts, histories, and recent scholarship with confidence and to make a new range of knowledge accessible to western readers. The material on Brancusi's childhood and training both as a craftsman and fine artist at the School of Arts and Crafts in Craiova and the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest respectively, provides a new basis for the assessment of his work, after as well as before his arrival in Paris. Brancusi is accepted as a major figure in histories of twentieth-century sculpture. Where the problems of sculpture, craft and materials, of formalism and the avant-garde or of 'primitivism' in modernism are concerned, he will remain a major figure to be discussed. This is a substantial contribution to knowledge about Brancusi and his work which includes many illustrations never previously published.

About the Author

Sanda Miller is a senior lecturer in fashion writing and culture at Southampton Solent University.  Her previous books include Constantin Brancusi: A Survey of His Work and The Dark Night of the Soul: Ana Maria Pacheco.

Constantin Brancusi has been my "numero uno" favourite Sculptor for decades
By Wally Asselberghs
Constantin Brancusi has been my "numero uno" favourite Sculptor for decades, so my opinion might be a little bit prejudiced in a positive way. Still consider it as one of the best books I ever read, and I am planning to buy a printed copy of it as well, after reading it on my Kindle. What I most liked about it was the descriptions by the author of his youth and life in rural Romania, which so much influenced and inspired his sculptural forms. The book also gives a great description of the life of artists in Paris, at the times when this city was once the cultural center of planet Earth. Although I experienced some passages were a little tedious, giving overwhelming information of dates of birth and death of some people he met, it is still very historically correct and informative. Great biography in regard of quotations from letters to and from the Sculptor. It was amazing to read how many great artists he connected with in Paris. Brancusi had a very inspiring and powerfull influence on my own ceramic sculptural objects. But,for 3 years in a row, I once forbade myself to look at pictures of his work, as I wanted to avoid any kind of influence which could make me copy his forms, without actually intending to do so....Many congrats for Sandra Miller to write this fascinating book, no more to be said.

An art book with no pictures? (Kindle Version)
By Amazon Customer
Lots of (interesting) words but NO pictures! As the only downloadable book on Brancusi I was hoping for more. Unfortunately the (very short) sample for download does not warn that there are no pictures. How can a book about Brancusi have no pictures?

Big Fat "Meh."
By Carolina West
I really can't think of much to say about this book (and boy did that turn out to be a lie). The story's fine, I guess, but there's errors all over the place. Extra words that have some sentences making no sense, commas and periods where there shouldn't be and not where they should be. I don't know how long Burton was writing when this one came out, but she and her editor should have looked it over a few more times before putting it through. The characters are another thing. Despite how long we spend with some of them, it doesn't feel like we learn anything about them at all, almost like they themselves and their relationships were an afterthought to the (relatively weak) murder plot.
Oh, and did I mention how freaking repetitive it is? I feel like I've read the phrase "ran/shoved/pushed long fingers through his/her hair" a hundred times by now and it's starting to not sound like words anymore. There are also a lot of places where the phrasing just sounds redundant and I found myself mentally changing it as I read so it flowed more. I've read the middle book in the trilogy, Dead Ringer, a couple times and it's a lot better than this one. Fewer errors, more time spent on the developing romance between detective and psycho-target, not to mention on the characters in general. This one just feels like she was too close to the release deadline to really give it the attention it needed. I'm reading "I'm Watching You" after this and I'm just really hoping it doesn't have the same problems as this one does, otherwise I might think twice about buying her books again.

An excellent suspenseful book as usual
By trickydicky
Mary Barton has a way of keeping you guessing about whodunit. If you do guess, you are never sure you are right until the very end. I liked the characters, especially that there were so many and you felt you knew all of them to some extent. If you like a romantic suspense you can't put down, you can't go wrong with a book by this author.

Another Great Thriller by Ms. Burton
By Angie Mike
This was another great thriller by Ms. Burton that had me on the edge of my seat. Although it's not necessary, I'd recommend reading 'Dead Ringer' first since details about Adrianna's past are revealed in that story. I really liked Gage who has made it his mission to find the missing and bring a sense of peace to their families. He's a hard man and singularly focused on his job which makes it hard to have a lasting relationship. Adrianna honestly wasn't the most lovable heroine, but she did end up growing on me. As the dead bodies pile up, the mystery just kept throwing me through loops. I had ideas but never could pin down who the killer was exactly. There were a couple of big surprises at the end which I didn't see coming either. Overall it was a thrilling read that flowed well and had just enough shock value and suspense to keep me reading. As is usually the case with this author, I do wish there had been more effort put into the romance. I still love her stories though and can't wait for the next one!

Awesome Images of Weather Phenomena!
By Mike O'Connor
Throughout the years, I have always marveled at the spectacular light and color displays produced by weather systems - gorgeous sunsets, fantastical cloud formations, vivid lightning displays, etc. Richard Hamblyn's EXTRAORDINARY WEATHER, WONDERS OF THE ATMOSPHERE FROM DUST STORMS TO LIGHTNING STRIKES collects full-color images of various weather wonders in this 2012 David & Charles release. The result is a pleasing, entertaining, sometimes awe-inspiring testament to the beauty of Mother Nature.

Within the book's 144 pages can be found breathtaking pix and informed descriptions of frost feathers, Alaskan sun dogs, lightning strikes, haboobs, Jacobs ladder, tornados, supercells, Mammatus clouds, fire whirls, cloud wakes, anvil crawlers, snow rollers, dust devils and other weather phenomena.

For any one who has ever been mesmerized by weather phenomenon, this book will be a delight. Recommended.

Exciting Pictures
By Zoeeagleeye
The book is put together in nice sections that work. Every picture is an eye-popper, but some more than others. I've looked through the book many times because the pictures are so stunning and the information so interesting. You can learn a lot from this book about what certain kinds of weather looks like and why. It also has mystery.

My only complaint would be that it is showing great lack of understanding of your average person's reading needs to make the print so small -- especially when you might only have a few sentences on one page. I hope they correct this in future editions.

Review
I doubt that anything will beat this traditional page-to-stage adaptation for ceaselessly involving telling of a cracking story." Fiona Mountford, Evening Standard

About the Author
Nina Bawden is one of today's best writers for both adults and children. she has often used her own childhood experiences in her books - Carrie's War is set in the mining valley in Wales where she lived as an evacuee in wartime. She studied philosophy, politics and economics at Somerville College, Oxford and finished her first novel the year after she took her degree. She won the Guardian Award for Children's Fiction for The Peppermint Pig.

From AudioFile
Carrie's reluctance to tell the story of her childhood relocation to the Welsh countryside during World War II intrigues the listener. The superstitious folklore surrounding the rural wartime setting, as well as the events that take place during Carrie's visit and haunt her memory as an adult also capture the listener's attention. Equally impressive is Zelah Clark's portrayal of the charactersÐfrom Carrie's innocent sounding younger brother, to the grouchy voice of the children's reluctant guardian, Mr. Evans. Romantic and historical fiction fans will enjoy this well-performed program. M.P.T. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine

A Wonderful Book!
By Gums Bukowski
I'd read Nina Bawden's "The Peppermint Pig" when I was in elementary school, but our library didn't have any other titles by her. The book listed all of Bawden's other titles, but I didn't get to read "Carrie's War" until I was in high school. It's a wonderful story, and a fascinating look into the world of one of the many children sent to stay in the rural British countryside during World War II.

A lovely read, which transports you to world war 2 Britain.
By A Customer
Having read this book as a young girl of 11, I am looking forward to reading it to my two young children. It has been many years since I read this book, but it left such an impression, Carrie is forced to become a caretaker of her younger brother at an early age in a time of war, transported to Wales to get away from the bombing in London, it tells a tale of how she tries to find some grounding in a world turned upside down, its a wonderful book.

Haunted by Youthful Guilt
By Gale Finlayson
Nina Bawden's 1973 YA story is related with the ring of an authentic WWII memory. One of several books to be inspired by the evacuation of hundreds of London children during the Blitz, Carrie's War appears at first glance to be the experiences of Carrie Willow and her younger brother, Nick, during the long separation from their mother (and father in the Navy). Their wartime odyssey takes them, along with many other evacuees, to a remote mining town in Wales, where the land is devastated by mining interests rather than bombs.

Albeit safe, their life is far from soft in the home of the rigid and
arrogant Councillor, Mr. Evans--their reluctant host. Bullying and mean he seems to relish his role as an ogre; supercilious, stingy with his resources and self-righteous in religious matters, he expects the siblings
to toe the line and cower respectfully in his presence. No deviation from duty and gratitude will be tolerated. The only softening influence in the household is provided by his younger sister, Aunty Lou, who meekly submits to her tyrannical brother. Carrie and Nick soon grow to love her, as they secretly pity her suffocated existence.

Luckier in his Welsh billeting his fellow travelers, tall and scholarly Albert Sandwich is sent to stay at a home in Druid's Bottom--near a forest of ancient yew trees--which local reputation whispers about magical or mysterious undertones of past centuries, when the Celts practiced "the old religion." He stoutly denies that his hostess, Miss Hepzibah Green, is a witch, though she fascinates the children with
her tale of a screaming skull and its curse.

Disguised as a modest YA story Carrie's War actually proves a psychological novel, with plenty of dialogue to maintain teenage
interest, plus mystery and complex human emotions to stimulate more mature readers. Most of the book consists of detailed flashback on the siblings' sojourn in Wales. We soon realize that Carrie is now a mother of several children herself, who has undertaken a sentimental journey with them to revisit the sights which made such lasting impressions
on her 12-year-old mind some thirty years ago. Alas, Carrie is haunted by what she considers her great, immature crime: "it was all my fault," she confesses in anguish, though there was none to condemn her.
She has voluntarily shouldered a heavy burden of guilt, although her adult mind rejects the role of her impetuous, thoughtless action and a legendary curse. Then too she is torn with doubt re the role of Mr. Evans in the disappearance of his older sister's will. "Miss Heart and Mr. Head," as Hepzibah nicknames her and Albert, were united in their love and compassion for her and her mentally-challenged ward, Mr. Johnny. Carrie comes of age in this excellent and fascinating story.

Three A.M. on a hot midsummer’s night in Manchester. A party taking place in a shabby Victorian terrace house. In the back garden Tony and Ruth meet, thanks to a stolen can of beer. On the floor above, Don and Edie are having a party of their own. As the night progresses, love is definitely in the air – but then so is the smell of cheap lager. And even cheaper aftershave. Kiss Me Like You Mean It was shortlisted for the Meyer-Whitworth Award, and has subsequently been produced in various venues around the world, including a successful three month run in Paris in 2004.

intention, invention: the creative process
By Constance Slings-Arrows
For anyone fortunate enough to have seen the Donmar Warehouse production of RED with Alfred Molina and Eddie Redmayne it will come as no surprise that John Logan's script yields fresh fruit with each new reading. As literate and passionate exploration of the creative process, the play positively requires--demands--that most important aspect of art--the audience's participation, the audience's thinking. The immediate topical focus of the play, of course, is Mark Rothko, but its ultimate concerns lie far beyond the boundaries of one man's canvas. RED is a masterpiece.

All the quotations. All the questions.
By John Michael Albert
I'm a sucker for think-pieces like this. I'm old fashioned enough that I actually want to be challenged by art. "Challenged"? Hell, I believe its essential to anyones proof of existence that they be willing to run directly at an oncoming train for the experience of being completely changed by the impact. And, yes, I'm the one with the father who would stand in the museums in the 1950's and say about abstract expressionism, "My kid coulda done that." Or, about Rothko, "If I painted a wall that unevenly, I'd be fired." Thankfully, I eventually moved to Houston and discovered the Rothko Chapel where I spent many quiet, dimly lit hours alone and in the company of friends with those paintings (thanks to Dominique deMenille). I returned to all of this (from New Hampshire) with the PBS broadcast of Simon Schama's Power of Art. The hour on Rothko's Seagram's Four Seasons mural was the climactic, eight episode in the series. All of the quotations are there. All of the questions are there. And the question of money and art gets a full-body slam. (Rothko famously told Philip Johnson, the architect, 'No one who pays that kind of money for that kind of food is going to see any paintings of mine,' and send the commissioning fee, the equivalent of $2 million, back.) Since I saw the Schama first and have watched it many times, I venture that the play dramatizes the contents of the Schama program (same source? collaboration between the authors? zeitgeist?) introducing the catalyst of an artists' assistant. No matter. If you're attracted to think pieces, especially think pieces devoted to contemporary (for me, anyway) art and contemporary issues in art, both the Schama and the Logan were created for you. Here's a two-engined train you should run at with all your might.

A brilliant play
By chicklit
I had read the play before seeing Alfred Molina's stunning performance on Broadway and the writing simply sang. Logan has created a true masterpiece with delicious roles for actors. A wonderful play and an engaging read! While Colette Freedman's Sister Cities used to be my favorite play, I believe it has been surpassed by this remarkably crafted aria.

Inventing Software: The Rise of Computer-Related Patents, by Kenneth Nichols

Since the introduction of personal computers, software has emerged as a driving force in the global economy and a major industry in its own right. During this time, the U.S. government has reversed its prior policy against software patents and is now issuing thousands of such patents each year, provoking heated controversy among programmers, lawyers, scholars, and software companies. This book is the first to step outside of the highly-polarized debate and examine the current state of the law, its suitability to the realities of software development, and its implications for day-to-day software development.

Written by a former lawyer and working software developer, Inventing Software provides a comprehensive overview of software patents, from the lofty perspectives of legal history and computing theory to the technical details and issues of actual patents. People interested in the legal aspect of software patents will find detailed technical analysis of actual patented software, the legal strategies behind the wording of the patents, and an analysis of the ease or difficulty of detecting infringements. Software developers will find ways to integrate patent planning into their standard software engineering practices, and a practical guide for studying and appraising their competitors' patents and safeguarding the value of their own. Intended primarily for programmers and software industry executives and managers, Inventing Software will also be useful, illuminating reading for attorneys and software company investors.

?Nichols is an Oracle database consultant, with degrees in computer science and law, so it is not surprising that he was able to write a good mix of law and software concepts. As such, I can strongly recommend the book for both lawyers and software engineers....Nichol's book is well worth reading if your work will be affected by software patents.?-American Inventors

Good attempt at a discourse on a difficult subject
By Erik Gfesser
From the first lines of the preface of this work by Kenneth Nichols, it is apparent that what was initially planned to be of more concise scope grew into a discussion of all things associated with software patents, and therein lies the rub. It is interesting that the author notes in just the second sentence that he "came to the conclusion that the particulars of the debate [within the programming community over the desirability and ultimate effect of software patents]...are not that interesting or enlightening". Really? I find it odd that an individual with a J.D. and an M.S. in Computer Science would make such a statement. Of course, his follow-up statement that the "larger and more important story" involves the fact that "software development is a new kind of creative activity, one that defies the neat and mutually exclusive categorizations of intellectual effort as either artistic or scientific" might be true, Frederick P. Brooks wrote extensively on this topic in his classic tome on software engineering long before the USPTO permitted the filing of related patents. Fortunately, Nichols dedicates most of his work to the more boring subject matter, although unfortunately the explanations provided are a bit boring themselves. Putting aside the fact that this book was written in the late 1990s, however, there is a lot to offer here to the professional software engineer as well as the non-technical management community associated with software interests of this nature. For example, the author's concise 20-page introduction introduces well much of the background subject matter. Nichols also discusses well the topics of algorithms, programming, computer science, software engineering, and how patents fit in with this universe. The heart of the text, the third chapter which presents various software patent examples, however, is very poorly constructed in my opinion, although the explanation in its first few pages on major terms such as "novelty" and "nonobviousness" is concisely written. The diagram provided that depicts concepts related to nonobviousness, written in the style of a Venn diagram, is especially well suited for the discussion. The fourth chapter covers the software patent controversy, and the reader is well rewarded in my opinion when reaching this point in the book after 50 pages of rambling. It is strange that the seventh chapter is dedicated to a definition of programming, a discussion best suited for the introductory pages of the book, although some of the quotes provided in these pages are quite entertaining, such as the W. Saba quote from an IEEE periodical that "hardware engineers have gone further than their software counterparts because hardware design became a science...Unlike hardware engineers, software engineers still deal in magic and witchcraft". Interestingly enough, it was just recently that The Economist discussed the emergence of computer science as the foundational branch of science. Last of all, while the sixth chapter boldly begins by proclaiming "we've finally come to the good part" because it deals with recommendations for software developers, only 6 pages are dedicated to the subject! If Nichols is to write further on software patents, I recommend an entire book dedicated to recommendations.

Every software developer should read this
By Lynellen Perry
Kenneth Nichols is both a computer scientist and a lawyer. This gives him a fantastic grounding from which to write about software patents.
Why should YOU read this book?
Just as a literate programmer reads journal articles, design documents, and source code, so should he or she be able to evaluate software patents. This ability is fast becoming a competitive necessity, for economic as well as legal reasons. (page 55)
What's in this book?
Nichols first explains what the problem is. Why are software patents a problem? How can one enforce a software patent? In what ways does software not fit into the regular patent process? What exactly is a patent anyway?
Software patents are currently defined in terms of algorithms. But what exactly does the court system understand to be an algorithm, and how is that different from the viewpoint of a computer scientist? Answering this question is the subject of chapter two. Along the way, Nichols shows the problems with trying to patent (under the current system) several different programming paradigms such as self-modifying programs and distributed computing, imperative mode versus object-oriented mode versus functional and declarative paradigms. He also shows how software engineering techniques can help document the pieces needed in writing a software patent specification.
Chapter three defines some major terminology of the patent process and shows how it relates to software. For example, there is a distinction between 'novel' and 'nonobvious'. Also, a software patent must carefully delineate the 'scope' and 'claims' of the patent. To help make this book as practical as possible, this chapter examines (in depth), four actual software patents: a text-searching system; an object-oriented database; a 'C' source code blocker; and a special-purpose sorting method.
The next chapter takes on the debate of whether or not software patents are a good idea, and examines each side in detail including the practical concerns of enforcement and detection of infringement. After looking at this debate, Nichols presents the SDKR (named after the lastname initials of its authors: samuelson, Davis, Kapor, and Reichman). The SDKR is a proposal which ``advocates a special form of intellectual property for computer software'' to replace software patents by doing several things:
merge software copyright and software patent; focus on mass market software only;
preserve the software market and still foster software innovation;
create a clear set of legal rules specifically for software;
provide legal protection on a shorter length than current patents, acknowledging that the software lifecycle is very different from other patentable inventions;
provide protection to a program's behavior instead of just the exact implementation that produces a behavior; and
protect ``innovation'' of software instead of the stricter ``inventiveness'' required by current patent law.
Chapter six is chock full of practical advice for software developers who want to protect their software. The next two chapters are a summary and a look at the future of software programming. I highly recommend this book to anyone who plans to develop software as a livelihood... software patents can not only protect your investment of time, energy, and creativity in the programming process, but they can even earn you some extra money if others are forced to license your software from you in order not to violate your patent.

Practical explanations about how the law applies to software
By Janet Wilson
I liked this book because of its practitioner focus. It really explains the law and how it does (and doesn't!) apply to software. Kenneth Nichols also does a good job of "putting things in a universe," helping the reader to understand how the application of patent and copyright law to software has become so muddled.
I especially liked the chapter on "Software Patent Examples" where he discusses the vagaries of applying the law to various typical software products.
The book is also pleasingly short (169 pp.)--fits well in a briefcase as an airline read.
So many books on patent law are written by lawyers who aren't practicing software developers. As a developer and lawyer, Kenneth Nichols is uniquely positioned to comment on this subject. I see that Quorum Books, which I gather is a quality publisher of law titles, agreed.

An introduction to the innovative therapy that restores optimal functioning of the brain after physical or emotional trauma

• Provides an alternative to the more invasive therapies of electroshock and drugs

• Shows how this therapy helps ameliorate anxiety and depression as well as childhood developmental disorders

• Includes extraordinary case histories that reveal the powerful results achieved

According to the Centers for Disease Control, each year 260,000 people are hospitalized with traumatic brain injuries. The Brain Injury Association reports 1.5 million injuries, many of which go undiagnosed but which lead to all kinds of cognitive and emotional impairments. While neuroscience has learned an enormous amount about the connection between brain trauma and personality changes, the methods proposed for resolving these alterations are generally limited to drug therapy or surgeries.

This book explores a much less invasive but highly effective technique of restoring brain function: the Low Energy Neurofeedback System (LENS). Developed by Dr. Len Ochs in 1992, it has had extraordinary results using weak electromagnetic fields to stimulate brain-wave activity and restore brain flexibility and function. The treatment works across a broad spectrum of human activity, increasing the brain’s abilities to adapt to the imbalances caused by physical trauma or emotional disorders--both on the basic level and in the more subtle areas of cognitive, affective, and spiritual processes that make us truly human. While the treatment has had remarkable results with individuals who have experienced severe physical trauma to the head and brain, Stephen Larsen sees it also as an important alternative to chemical approaches for such chronic behavioral disorders as ADHD and monopolar and bipolar depression.

Facinating brain function and Neurofeedback to understand brain healing
By Amazon Customer
I have had LENS as a treatment for TBI- traumatic brain injuries. Concussions as a child from beatings, car accident, and severe allergic reaction resulting in 3 cardiac/pulmonary arrests that severely affected my ability to funtion. I wanted to understand how and why this worked, this book enabled me to do so. I am an RN and the cumulative effects of these traumas no longer allowed me to work. Grey, fuzzy days, unable to remember simple tasks or complete much of anything. This book clearly explains the evolution of this treatment and I am now actually able to function and enjoy life as I haven't been able to do for years. I feel like I have my life back. I feel intelligent again.

If you think this treatment might be for you, and want to explore it further, I do believe this book will help you understand how this treatment came to be and the principles involved. It can be technical, but I found it facinating and enlightning.

The one star rater felt this wasn't biofeedback/neurofeedback. I disagree. LRNS takes the brain wave pattern and offests it by a tiny amount and feeds it back... the brain then tries to follow the new frequency, leaving behind the old, dysfunctional frequency. Certainly seems like neurofeedback to me. Me, the patient, had to put forth no effort or practice, other than attend the appointments. I would live on bread and water to be able to afford these treatments, that is how much difference they have made in my life. Best of healing to you.

A valuable resource for those researching neurotherapy
By Levi Marsh
I have been a layman advocate of Neurotherpy since the mid-nineties. My youngest son was a low performing high school student who had been diagnosed with attention deficit disorder. All total he had approximately 40 treatments of eeg-neurofeedback using the EEG Spectrum protocol after trying Ritalin, which he could not tolerate. After neurofeedback treatment, but still with very little confidence, he reluctantly entered college. One day in an algebra class he realized that for the first time in his academic life that not only was he paying attention, he was following what the professor was saying, and he then realized that the change was probably due to the neurotherapy treatments. He is now a confident, capable college graduate doing a complicated job that he loves and went after himself. He is a highly funtional person and I am a proud father.

I became somewhat obsessed with keeping up with this field and all the variations of treatments, and I have directed many people to various practioners in my state. I have attended multiple conferences as a layman just to keep up with advances and spin-offs from this treatment. My bookshelves at home are full of publications on this subject because I so strongly believe in the physiological principles being discovered in this area. This book finally explains in clear, understandable language what Len Och's protocol does, or at least what is known up to this point. Most importantly,it brings together a comprehensive view that needs to be understood both by the public and practitioners of the trade. Chapter Twelve discusses all the other modalities of treatment of disorders and how all of them are important and how possibly none of them alone is the only answer to many complicated disorders. This field of treatment addresses many things that mainstream medicine presently is not addressing, and this book offers other avenues to explore. I think the author explains that enigma as well as anyone I have read. For anyone practicing, or for anyone trying to decide if it is a protocol that might improve their lives or a loved one's life, this is a must read.
